Mark Tomlinson is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at Stellenbosch University. His scholarly work has involved a diverse range of topics that have in common an interest in factors that contribute to compromised maternal health, to understanding infant and child development in contexts of high adversity and how to develop community based intervention programmes. He has a particular interest in understanding infant and child development in the context of caregiver mental illness. He has conducted five large randomised controlled trials aimed at improving maternal and child health and infant development, and is currently implementing three other trials (including in Lesotho). He is an Associate Editor of Infant Mental Health Journal, and is also on the Editorial Boards of PLoS Medicine; Psychology, Health and Medicine; and Mental Health and Prevention. He has published over 160 papers in peer reviewed journals, edited two books and published numerous chapters.
