Liv Elin Torheim is professor of public health nutrition at Oslo and Akershus University College (HiOA). She is also chair of the Norwegian National Nutrition Council, which is an independent advisory board to the Norwegian health authorities. She teaches public health nutrition at bachelor and master level and is responsible for HiOA’s master level course Nutrition and human rights. She also supervises PhD students and is head of the HiOA research group Public Health Nutrition
Her research interests are broad relating to all levels of public health nutrition, such as assessing dietary intake and nutritional status, analyzing factors affecting dietary intake at different levels of the food system, and evaluating policies and actions for improved and sustainable dietary intake and reduced undernutrition and overweight. Liv has previously worked for UNICEF in Nepal and has been representing Norway in a number of UN meetings on food and nutrition. She has also worked for Fafo Institute of Applied International Studies, where she undertook several assessments and evaluations of nutrition programmes for i.a. DFID. Liv has her Master and PhD degree in nutrition from the University of Oslo.
