Mercia Andrews, director of a national rural development NGO, TCOE (Trust for Community Outreach and Education). The work of the TCOE focuses on working with small -scale producers and farmers throughout South Africa.
She also works very closely with farmworkers living and working mainly on fruit and wine farms in the Western Cape. She is also the regional coordinator for the Southern African Rural Women’s Assembly, a regional movement of small -scale farmers, peasants, producers and forest dwellers.
Her work is centers on the self –organisation of the rural poor as well as the concrete development of alternatives such as the creation of field schools that teaches and promotes of agro-ecology, traditional seeds as well as campaigns against GMOs.
